Before the mortgage crisis began unfolding in 2008, causing chaos in world markets, another financial apocalypse was already underway at one of France’s most prestigious banks. A sophisticated trader at premier bank Societe Generale, Jerome Kerviel was taking out covert market positions of up to 50 billion Euros. Whether or not his employers knew of his actions or just turned a blind eye as he made them millions, remains the major question since the scandal. A story of corruption that epitomized the world at this time, and a showcase of how greed can lead to one’s destruction.
